WHEN IT WAS KNOWN THAT I WAS A FORMER WOLFHOUNDI WAS ASSIGNED TO AN INFANTRY RECRUIT TRAINING CENTER AT CAMP CROFT,SC AND THEN TO CAMP BLANDING, FLA. ALL THIS I HATED. I VOLUNTEERED OFTEN FOR OVERSEAS DUTY AND TO MY DISAPPOINTMENT, I NEVER WAS SELECTED. EVENTUALLY I ENDED UP IN A HOSPITAL FOR THREE MONTHS, RESULTING IN A MEDICAL DISCHARGE FOR STOMACH ULCERS FROM WHICH I STILL SUFFER, AND SENT HOME. I REPEATEDLLY TRIED TO REINLIST, LIED ABOUT MY CONDITION AND NEVER MADE IT. WHILE IN THE SERVICE, MY WISH WAS TO BE WITH THE WOLFHOUNDS IN THE PACIFIC.THAT WASN'T COMING, SO I WOULD VOLENTEER FOR ANY OVERSEAS DUTY THAT CAME UP,THEN CAME THE HOSPITAL AND THE WAR WAS OVER FOR ME. As a teacher it is something that i will refer students to. Not for the same type of info they could get from encyclopedias and other books like that, but for info that can only come from the on truly reliable source. That of the men that honerably served. Those that protected the freedoms that they (and I) enjoy today. Though i do not know you or the sacrifices that you and your comrades made, I want to thank you and your fellow servicemen.
